Recently, I've started to lose locs hardcore. The most likely culprit is waiting long periods in-between retightenings. My hair seems so fragile.
I'm currently in an ugly season with my locs.

I am experiencing the same problem. I had my consultant do tightenings every 5 weeks, and still lost several locks. I called sisterlocks, but never got a return call. Currently I am using Udo's oil, shampooing and conditioning. Hair appears to be growing back. My concern is that I don't know what caused it. Let me know if you ever get to the root of this problem.

Oh no! Hmm... are you ladies sure it's a sisterlock issue? Perhaps it could be dietary or another cause of shedding? Also, I think getting retightenings too soon as well as waiting too long could equally be culprits of thinning locks-- it's best to find that fine balance. Also, you may want to look into switching patterns. I found the 4 pattern was a bit to constricting for my hair... I think my consultant had continued to use the 3pt (no way I can really check) and my hair is better.
ReplyDeleteI like reading your blog form time to time, it's great. I'm sorry about the thinning lock issue, I know how frustrating hair loss can be. I was thinking about P.R Charles video on lock maintenance where she talks about a time her locks were thinning and discussess her conditioning regimen. Have you thought about conditioning at the top to support the base? I haven't tried it yet myself. I also wanted to suggest seeing a doctor and getting things like thyroid checked out if you haven't thought about that already. You're natural remedies are awesome, will stay tuned. All the best. Kim
ReplyDeletePlease see a dermatologist and get a scalp biopsy... you should not be losing this much hair. Also do not retighten down to the scalp.
ReplyDeleteI should have noted that the pile of locks I had collected over months.
ReplyDeleteI have had my thyroid checked as well as a complete work up and completely normal.
Could be stress though! I have also heard it takes some women longer than others to recover from pregnancy hormones.
I've been locked since August. I lost 3 locks in Oct. 2012, and just lost the same 3 last week after taking the time to carefully regrow them over the last 6-7 months. I wouldn't even let my consultant touch them because I thought that it was her fault. Now I know that it was hormonal. I had my 4th child 3 years ago. Hope this helps. P.S. I was told that my thyroid was normal, but the blood tests for it do not give an accurate account of the thyroid's efficiency. Now I know that I suffer from hypothyroidism, which can cause hair thinning.
